This Austin live music tour is built on a simple fact: Austin has more stages than any city its size, and on any night you can choose between a Texas dance hall, a blues bar, a songwriter room and a punk club. We stay on South Congress and do a little of each, with barbecue in between.

Arrive on South Congress
Airport pickup, welcome dinner, club nightPickup at Austin-Bergstrom and check-in on South Congress. At dusk, the bats from the Congress Avenue Bridge, then the welcome dinner and the first show at the Continental Club.

Downtown and ACL Live
Guided walk, concertA morning walk through downtown with a guide: the Capitol, the old club strip on Sixth Street, the Willie Nelson statue. Afternoon free for the record shops. In the evening, a concert at ACL Live at the Moody Theater.

Lady Bird Lake and the Broken Spoke
Walk, dance hall nightA slow morning, then the Stevie Ray Vaughan statue at Auditorium Shores and the lake trail. Barbecue for a late lunch. At night the van to the Broken Spoke for a two-step lesson and a country band.

Red River
Free day, farewell dinner, club nightA free day, or an optional trip to Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas. The farewell dinner is followed by a club route through Red River, ending at Stubb's or the Mohawk.

Good to know before you book
Pace. Moderate. Two to three hours on foot on city days, standing at some shows, and late nights.
Good to know. Summer days in Austin go above 95 degrees, so afternoons are kept free. Austin City Limits tapings are free by lottery and never certain; the ACL Live night is a regular concert. Red River clubs are loud and standing room.
Weather and changes. Shows and studio visits run in all weather; if a venue cancels, we replace it with one of the same kind and tell you in writing.
Flights to Austin
Most of our guests fly in on their own, drive, or use miles, and the tour price does not include flights. If you would rather we handle it, we book round-trip economy flights on scheduled airlines to Austin and back, and the airport pickup on the tour dates is already included.

We confirm the concert about two months ahead and send the name; it might be country, rock, soul or a singer-songwriter.
Is the two-step lesson compulsory?
Not at all. Plenty of guests watch from the tables with a beer.
Why stay on South Congress?
It has the Continental Club and the Saxon Pub within walking distance, and it is quieter at night than downtown.
When are the bats there?
From late March to October. In winter we replace the bat evening with a happy hour show.
